ULC Technologies Expands Emissions Reduction Portfolio with Launch of Mini DDC Drawdown Compressor

Smaller footprint, faster drawdowns, and natural gas-powered efficiency all in the bed of your truck.

ULC Technologies, a leading developer of advanced gas distribution utility solutions focused on safety, sustainability, and operational efficiency, today announced the launch of the Mini DDC, a compact, high-performance version of its industry-proven DDC-125 Drawdown Compressor. The Mini DDC is designed to help gas distribution utilities and their contractors reduce emissions, recover more gas, and meet evolving environmental regulations — all while saving time and operational cost.

Built on the field-proven foundation of the DDC-125, the Mini DDC retains core performance and safety features while introducing a smaller, more mobile format that minimizes impact on construction timelines and lowers barriers to adoption. Critically, the Mini DDC is powered by natural gas rather than diesel, eliminating the need for external compressors or diesel infrastructure on-site.

“Utilities are under increasing pressure from stakeholders to reduce methane emissions and meet aggressive net-zero targets,” said Nathan King, Director of Marketing at ULC Technologies. “The Mini DDC gives the gas distribution industry a tool that’s easier to deploy, faster to operate, and cleaner to run — and is well suited to support day-to-day construction and maintenance activities.”

Key Benefits of the Mini DDC:
  • Natural Gas-Powered: Uses the utility’s own product gas, eliminating diesel logistics and reducing total site emissions.
  • Faster Drawdown Times: Accelerates operations, enabling utilities to recover gas more efficiently during maintenance, abandonment, or construction.
  • Compact and Mobile: Ideal for urban environments, tight workspaces, or projects requiring rapid deployment.
  • Wide Pressure Range: Handles inlet and outlet pressures up to 125 psig — offering flexibility across a broad range of gas distribution scenarios.

The Mini DDC supports decarbonization goals in the UK, where gas networks can quantify emissions reductions over a 25-year period using Ofgem’s Annual Environmental Reporting Guidance — providing tangible financial savings through carbon pricing models. The product is also well suited to meet U.S. state-level mandates in California, New York, and other progressive regions targeting net-zero emissions goals as well as emissions reduction targets set by utility companies.

Driving a Cleaner Future in Gas Distribution

The Mini DDC is the latest advancement in ULC Technologies’ expanding portfolio of emissions-focused innovations, complementing the company’s mission to help the utility industry transform the way natural gas infrastructure is maintained and modernized.

“We’re committed to developing and delivering solutions that drive real progress for our customers,” added King. “The Mini DDC helps utilities recover more emissions in less time — reducing environmental impact, project costs, and complexity in the field.”
