ULC Technologies completed its first ever CISBOT deployment in a live 42” cast iron gas main with mechanical joints in Newark. PSE&G, a diversified energy company based in New Jersey that delivers natural gas to customers across the state, has worked with ULC to support leak response on several complex projects where traditional methods would be costly or disruptive.
PSE&G was notified of non-hazardous gas readings in the street where there was an active roadway reconstruction project in front of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC). The utility knew that a complete replacement of the pipeline was not ideal – and that multiple excavations would interfere with construction timelines. Additionally, future leaks along the line could negatively impact O&M budgets as well as newly paved roadways and sidewalks.
“ULC Technologies deployment of the 42” CISBOT robot to internally remediate the mechanically joined cast iron gas main was a first of its kind,” says Stephen Dombrowski, CISBOT Project Manager at ULC Technologies. “PSE&G is not only preventing future leaks, but they are also helping to protect investments in roadways and infrastructure through a more proactive approach to leak response.”
