ULC Technologies’ Drawdown Compressor Wins UK Net Zero Innovation Award

ULC Technologies Wins Net Zero Innovation Award for DDC-125 Deployment with Flowstop Services and SGN

ULC Technologies is proud to announce that the DDC-125 Drawdown Compressor has been honored with the Net Zero Innovation Award at the prestigious IGEM Awards Gala, recognizing its role in helping reduce methane emissions from the gas distribution system.

The award highlights a successful collaboration between ULC Technologies, Flowstop Services, and SGN, one of the UK’s leading gas network operators. Together, the partners deployed the DDC-125 in live field conditions to reduce natural gas venting and recover emissions during critical maintenance and repair work using a process called cross compression.

“This award reflects the real-world impact the DDC-125 is having in supporting utilities like SGN as they move toward a cleaner, more sustainable future,” said David McLeod, Head of UK Business Development of ULC Technologies. “We’re especially proud of our collaboration with Flowstop Services, whose operational expertise has been vital in putting the DDC-125 to work in the field.”

A Proven Solution for Reducing Emissions
The DDC-125 is an innovative drawdown compressor designed specifically to help gas distribution networks and their contractors recover emissions and minimize methane release during operations such as pipeline maintenance, abandonment, and pressure reduction.

The DDC-125 runs on natural gas — the same gas already in the pipeline — eliminating the need for external fuel sources and reducing the logistical burden for contractors. With faster drawdown times and a maximum outlet pressure rating of 125 psig (8.6 bar), the DDC-125 offers a high-performance, field-ready solution that supports both operational efficiency and environmental stewardship.

Supporting the UK’s Net Zero Goals
Methane is a potent greenhouse gas, and tackling emissions from gas infrastructure is essential to the UK’s decarbonization targets. Technologies like the DDC-125 as well as the smaller Mini DDC Drawdown Compressor, align with Ofgem’s regulatory framework and the broader UK Hydrogen and Net Zero Strategies by enabling utilities to reduce emissions today while preparing for the future energy system.

“SGN’s leadership in trialling the DDC-125 reflects a growing commitment among UK gas networks to accelerate decarbonization and invest in sustainable innovation, says McLeod. “SGN and Flowstop Services have demonstrated exactly how the UK gas industry can adopt new technology that’s practical, scalable, and impactful. We’re honored to be part of the solution.”
