ULC Technologies Announces CISBOT Operator Qualification in Collaboration with the Northeast Gas Association

ULC Technologies is proud to announce the implementation of a new CISBOT-specific Operator Qualification, OQ 29/30G, developed in collaboration with the Northeast Gas Association (NGA). This qualification is now active for U.S. operations and represents a step forward in further formalizing training and safety standards for internal joint repair in live gas distribution mains.

ULC’s CISBOT solution enables internal joint repair in live 12”–48” diameter gas distribution mains, eliminating the need for excavation and significantly reducing public disruption. To support this advanced capability, CISBOT field teams already undergo extensive natural gas OQ and safety training, in addition to specialized CISBOT system instruction. The introduction of OQ 29/30G builds on this foundation by establishing a formal, standardized qualification specifically tailored to U.S. CISBOT operations.

The new operator qualification further reinforces ULC’s commitment to safety, consistency, and operational excellence. By defining clear training requirements and performance expectations, OQ 29/30G helps ensure that CISBOT operations are executed uniformly across projects, crews, and operating environments—supporting safer work practices and repeatable, high-quality outcomes for utility partners.

“The implementation of OQ 29/30G represents an important milestone for CISBOT operations,” said Ryan McGowan, ULC Technologies’ Vice President of Operations. “By working closely with NGA to develop a CISBOT-specific operator qualification, we’ve taken a meaningful step toward a more consistent, standardized, and safety-driven approach to training our field teams. This benefits our employees, our utility partners, and the communities we serve.”

ULC Technologies continues to collaborate with industry organizations and utility stakeholders to advance best practices for live gas main inspection and repair. The introduction of OQ 29/30G reflects ULC’s ongoing investment in workforce development, safety leadership, and innovative solutions for the gas distribution industry.
