Project Overview
Industry: Gas Distribution
Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Client: National Grid
Pipe Diameter: 24″
Business Areas Addressed:
- Gas Remediation
Using CISBOT, ULC Robotics was able to renew and seal 168 joints along this 1,975 foot stretch of gas main under live gas conditions. The technology allowed National Grid to avoid costly excavations and trenches in the street – decreasing the project duration from six months to just eight weeks as well as reducing public disruption to almost non-existent.
As a key technology in National Grid’s capital rehabilitation program, the utility relies on CISBOT to cost-effectively renew cast iron mains while decreasing disruption to the public typically seen with pipeline replacement and other rehabilitation and repair methods. By utilizing ULC Robotics and their robotic technologies, National Grid has successfully met the high demands of maintaining their large diameter pipe infrastructure.
