AUSMOS: Developing the Future of Underground Mapping
AUSMOS is an autonomous robotic platform that detects and marks-out below-ground infrastructure utilizing a sensor suite comprised of ground penetrating radar and electromagnetic sensors. This robotic platform automatically collects and processes sensor data to carry out same-day interpretation and mark-out of the ground to enhance damage prevention and protect workers across a wide range of applications.
Key Benefits
On-Site Data Processing
AUSMOS delivers immediate, interpretable results and mark out in the field in near-realtime to remove the need to wait for data analysis by subject matter experts.
High Resolution 3D Map
Improved Data Acquisition
The pushcart data acquisition process is prone to human error. Deployment of AUSMOS ensures data is properly captured and results in a more accurate map.
Operation in GPS-Denied Environments
AUSMOS can maintain its navigation and localization accuracy in highly congested areas
and inside buildings where GPS is denied.
Multi-Sensor Assessment
Ease of Deployment
AUSMOS eliminates the manual, intensive setup required for grid marking prior to data collection to reduce time-in-street and increase project efficiency.
How it Works
AUSMOS features a sensor suite comprised of Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Electromagnetic (EM) sensors encased on a small mobile frame.
Once navigated onto site by the operator, the scan area is then programmed into AUSMOS’ user interface to then autonomously collect and process data on-site for same-day interpretation and mark-out with centimeter-level accurate localization.
Onboard LiDAR enables the robotic platform for autonomous navigation even in GPS-denied environments, such as congested urban areas where signals get scattered.
AUSMOS saves time before operations with ease of setup and deployment, as well as post-scan by instantly delivering denser, easily understandable 3D data with no need to be sent out to subject matter experts.
Use Cases
- Support project planning with accurate as-built details
- Identify optimal excavation and trenching locations
- Minimize risk of subsurface excavation damage
- Reduce potholing to verify asset locations
- Support infrastructure and construction activities
- Un-locatable assets or “Turnbacks”
